A national training cum workshop about safeguard information system was organized from June 18 to 19, 2015 in Pokhara. Total of 27 participants (14 men and 13 women) representing various groups of Indigenous Peoples of Nepal participated the training. As opined by the trainees, it enhanced their understanding about safeguard information system. They committed to advocate proper implementation of REDD+ safeguards and full and effective participation of Indigenous Peoples in safeguard information system (SIS) in the country. During the training, discussion was also made about recognition of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in REDD+ activities, governance, forest conservation, and multidimensional ecosystem services of forests in the context of climate change and REDD+. Country context including of the situation of Indigenous Peoples in the country and the reporting against Cancun Safeguard on REDD+ was discussed in the training sessions. The group work during the training came up with some concrete conclusions as follows.

National safeguard and SIS should:
• Recognize and respect collective rights of indigenous peoples over land, territories and the natural resources
• Recognize and respect traditional and sustainable livelihood of indigenous peoples, multiple (social, economic, cultural and environmental) values of forest and non-carbon benefits of REDD+
• Recognize, promote and respect customary law, traditional knowledge, skill and collective decision-making process
• Ensure full and effective participation of indigenous peoples including indigenous women in SIS structure and system
• Respect and implement UNFCCC Cancun Agreement on REDD+ Safeguard
• Respect and implement international instrument of Indigenous Peoples rights, particularly UNDRIP, ILO C 169 and CBD 8(J) and 10 (C) including FPIC in SIS
• Ensure transparency, accessibility, responsiveness, and the inclusion of Indigenous Peoples in SIS
