Who We Are

We conduct training, workshop and dialogues with indigenous peoples at national, sub-national and community levels

Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) is the one and only umbrella organisation of all the indigenous peoples of Nepal. It was established in 1991. The key objective of NEFIN is to advocate and safeguard the rights of indigenous peoples. NEFIN has national and international chapters namely Province Coordination Councils (PCCs) in all 7 provinces, District Coordination Councils (DDCs) in more than 71 districts, more than 3,000 Village Coordinating Councils (VCCs), 12 affiliated federations of indigenous journalists, indigenous youth, students, film maker, lawyer etc., and abroad-chapters in more than 22 countries.

NEFIN started “NEFIN Climate Change Partnership Program” in 2009. NEFIN Climate Change Partnership Program focuses on advocacy, information dissemination, awareness raising and capacity building of indigenous peoples including of indigenous women and youth in climate action, natural resource management and the development work.

NEFIN Climate Change Partnership Program in partnership with local, national and international organizations, Asia Indigenous Peoples’ Pact (AIPP), International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), and Indigenous Peoples’ International Centre for Policy Research and Education (TEBTEBBA) amongst other, has been undertaking several programs and projects in climate action. It follows United Nations negotiations under various mechanisms including United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Green Climate Fund (GCF), for protection of the rights of indigenous peoples.
