Strengthening Indigenous Voices in Climate Action

Nagarkot: A three-day training-workshop on Indigenous Peoples’ rights in the context of climate change was held in Nagarkot from 29 November to 1st December, 2025 organized by the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) Climate Change Partnership Program at Hotel Country Villa. The workshop brought together 40 participants, including representatives from Indigenous Peoples Organizations and Secretariat of federal council of member, with equal participation of 20 women and 20 men.

The training aimed to strengthen Indigenous Peoples’ understanding of climate change and biodiversity-related issues. Key areas discussed included climate change impacts on Indigenous communities, adaptation and mitigation, loss and damage, Nepal’s Nationally Determined Contributions, REDD+ and LEAF Coalition, key discussions from COP 30, Green Climate Fund initiatives, and national and international biodiversity frameworks. Participants actively engaged in discussions, shared experiences, and provided recommendations based on realities, challenges, and gaps in existing policies regarding Indigenous rights, meaningful participation in decision-making, access to climate finance, and recognition of Indigenous knowledge in climate and biodiversity governance.
