NEFIN conducted a two-day national level workshop cum training on MRV and non-carbon benefits (NCBs) from April 22 to 23, 2015. A total of 32 participants including 12 women and 20 men took part in the program. The sessions focused on the issues in MRV and non-carbon benefits in REDD+. On the first day, the discussion focused on how Community Based Monitoring and Information System (CBMIS) of indigenous peoples can be incorporated into National Forest Monitoring as well as in MRV processes. The second day of the program worked out on what NCBs mean to indigenous peoples and how the non-carbon value of the forest to indigenous peoples has to be respected by REDD+ activities. Participant emphasized the fact that the symbiotic relationship of indigenous peoples with the forest and natural resources, forest is not only the sources of wood and fodder but also connected with social, cultural and spiritual value. Hence, they came up with the recommendations for ensuring the NCBs and its values while implementing REDD+.
